Oracle SD WAN is a good choice for clients looking for a granular SD WAN solution with strong cloud capabilities, especially for those already using the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. The offering also includes a range of hybrid connectivity options, with a choice of different underlays in each site (combining MPLS, broadband Internet, 3G/4G/5G LTE, point-to-point circuits and satellite communications).
IT teams may require training from Oracle staff, as previous customer reviews report that the Oracle management system can be complex and difficult to use. However, Oracle offer a robust support team that is available 24/7 and many report the product becomes easier to use once they have received the correct training from Oracle staff.
The ideally suited customer for this offering is an enterprise class organization in multiple geographically dispersed locations that utilize real time, mission critical apps such as VoIP or desktop virtualisation. The offering is particularly beneficial for those with multiple WAN links, looking to add bandwidth and/or cloud connectivity whilst retaining a high Quality of Experience (QoE).
However, caution may be taken when selecting an appropriate service provider, due to the vast number of Oracle connectivity partners. Selection may become confusing when attempting to align the correct solution with business needs.

Oracle provides SASE via their long term partnerships with security providers which include Zscaler, Palo Alto Networks and most recently, Check Point. There are four security capabilities required to reach Gartner’s SASE definition and of these Oracle Cloud Infrastructure meets three: secure web gateway (SWG), cloud access security broker (CASB) and zero trust network access (ZTNA). The final component is firewalls, which are provided by Oracle Network’s partners. The SASE solution also offers multi-cloud capabilities.
Oracle offers secure aggregated cloud connectivity over broadband and direct connect links to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, AWS and Microsoft Azure cloud environments. This is done by leveraging an Oracle SD WAN Cloud Hub, Oracle Talari CT800 virtual appliance for AWS and the Oracle Talari VT800 virtual appliance for access to Microsoft Azure. Ideal for enterprises wanting to improve the performance of Cloud access and services. The Oracle SD WAN Edge can be deployed on Amazon Web Services (AWS), Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) or on Microsoft Azure to extend the reach of corporate WAN into the cloud and use full Oracle APN services on cloud platforms. Internet sites, IaaS locations and SaaS applications can be accessed via SD WAN cloud deployment solutions, as they can act as gateways to cloud resources.
Clients also have a choice of optional additional security features:
Oracle’s solution reduces support costs, and simplifies routing and firewall admin through the use of adaptive path networking (APN) software in all of its appliances. This provides a consistent support and deployment experience through identical features on each appliance. The solution uses load balancing across aggregated bandwidth to ensure the optimal performance of application Quality of Experience (QoE).
Branch to branch connections are provided by Full Mesh SD WAN and are used to improve the efficiency of peer-to-peer applications. Teleworkers can use Failsafe SD WAN, which utilizes a multilink WAN fabric to provide intelligent link aggregation and optional packet replication for applications using real time traffic. The solution also provides inbound multi source QoS with inbound congestion avoidance, centralized orchestration and analytics. The Failsafe SD WAN for remote users provides insights into jitter, latency, packet loss and bandwidth utilization through continuous unidirectional measurements.
The Oracle solution is able to be enterprise managed, or alternatively the solution can be managed or co-managed via an Oracle FastConnect connectivity partner for MPLS VPN services.
Oracle SD WAN Aware is a browser accessed centralized management system which is designed to configure, monitor and provide analytics for all Oracle SD WAN. The Portal can be accessed via a Virtual Machine (VM) in the cloud on AWS or user provided servers. Oracle SD WAN Aware provides visibility into the performance of applications and links as well as tools to configure and manage networks. Analytics are provided to help efficiently resolve network issues by finding root causes, which can then be placed into fully customizable graphs and reports for ease of presentation. One instance of Oracle SD WAN Aware can support the controller and up to 256 SD WAN edge appliances with the management and collection for data. The solution also offers detailed network audits and single point configuration to ensure errors are kept at a minimum. Clients are offered constant per-packet performance analytics, which includes data on latency, jitter, packet loss and bandwidth usage between all paths and aggregated links.
